HUSKY
First, a huge pat on the back to all the Club members who participated in the great weekend at Husky last week – volunteers, first-timers, those who made a new PB, medal winners, the cheer squad, and everyone else who helped to make it one of the best weekends on the tri calendar. The Club even had its own technical official – go Sonja! There were the inevitable disappointments (Dave Edwards says he’s still depressed about having to DNF the long course due to bike problems) but that’s triathlon! There are too many of you to name, but here are a few highlights:

The Turtles for stepping up to Sprint distance – and enjoying every minute of it! We hear breaking 1:30 is now on the agenda.

Bec Kenny and Bryce Hammond for playing catch-up in the Sprint. They missed the wave start and had to mix it with the adults.

Luke Harden for his incredible effort in the Long Course on Sunday. Team Harden & Head featured Luke on both the bike and run legs. Not bad for a junior!

Marty Bell and Ben Duncan for successfully finishing their first Long Course tri. Marty seemed a bit surprised that it hurt!

Sam Presland for his efforts in his first Husky Sprint distance. Better luck next year at whipping Dad next year Sam!

Mitchell Brown and Jack Stewart who both made the 10 fastest swim times in the sprint – 10:34 for Jack, 10:37 for Mitch. Unfortunately Mitch’s brilliant run wasn’t judged official as the under-30 runners were turned around early! Mitchell finished 12th overall and Jack 19th.

Tim O’Shea who finished third overall in the Enticer with the second-fastest bike leg.

Elisha Bell and Annette Sampson who both recorded top 10 female legs in the sprint. Elisha had the 4th fastest run time of 20:17 while Annette was 6th on the bike in 35:43. Annette placed 25th and Elisha 27th overall amongst the women.

Club president Tony Lim for winning the Club’s only gold medal – a team effort in the Sprint. Not sure how he got his female runner in as a bloke though!

Club sec Ken Price who turned up with a severe case of asthma and talk of a DNF – only to walk away with a bronze medal. His partner Mandy wasn’t too shabby either winning silver in her first Sprint event since taking up running again.

Ashley Hale for his gutsy effort in finishing the long course despite severe cramps and nausea.

All the great junior volunteers but especially Zac Stahlhut for his endless efforts at a run aid station all day for the long course and Liam Dooley who spent up to ten hours in transition and at aid stations on both event days. You do us all proud!

And of course, Bill Stahlhut for finally cracking 4:30 in the long course after several years of just missing. That earned him his first top 5 placing.

Our medallists.
Gold to Tony Lim swimming in Late Entries in the Sprint.
Silver to Mitchell Brown, Elisha Bell and Mandy Meredith in the Sprint and Tim O’Shea in the Enticer.
Bronze to Jack Stewart, Matt Lewis and Mitchell Brown in the long course male teams. To Jack Stewart and Matt Lewis again in the Sprint, along with David Griffin, Ken Price, and Annette Sampson. Katie Winkworth and Rebecca Kenny both won bronze in the Ocean Swim.
Top 10 age group finishes to Bill Stahlhut and Tony Lim in the Long Course, Tim O’Connell, Brendon Kelly, Neil Galletly, Tony McGowan, Paula Luke, and Mekayla Burdfield in the Sprint, Julia Andre, Brooke Crossland, Chelsea Oaten, Kath Lewis, and Sean Oaten in the Enticer, and Daniel Kielly, Ally Strand, and John Taylor in the Ocean Swim.

XOSIZE SANDRINGHAM
It was apparently a tough day in the wind for the boys who ventured down to race in Melbourne this weekend. Mitchell Brown was the fastest of the JB contingent finishing 6th in the 16-19 age group in 1:09:41. This was Race 6 in the national Sprint Series point score for the upcoming world championships in Auckland. Jack Stewart, Matt Lewis and Tim O’Connell also had top 15 placings.

SHARK BAIT SWIM
Details have been confirmed for next month’s Shark Bait Swim at Plantation Point – so get out there and tell your friends! SOS for volunteers.
Don’t forget that this is a major fund-raiser for the Club and we’ll need volunteers to help out. If you can’t swim and would like to help out, or if friends or family would like to get involved, contact Chris Stubbs at chris.stubbs@caresouth.org.au We’re asking club members to hold back on registering until all positions are filled.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Entries have opened for this year’s Club Championships at Forster on Saturday 28th April.  It promises to be a fantastic event and it would be great to improve on last year’s effort – 3rd place in the smaller clubs category. Those who attended last year said it was great fun. Bill Stahlhut is co-ordinating the Club’s entries and will so talk to him if you have any questions or need help with getting there. The event is only open to Club members who are current financial members of Triathlon New South Wales/TA and 15 or older as at 31 December 2011. You can enter online at http://regonline.activeglobal.com/triathlonnsw2012clubchampionships or if you’re not competing, you can also earn points for your club by volunteering. Volunteers can register at http://regonline.activeglobal.com/2012triathlonnswclubchampionshipsvolunteerregistra
