JB Tri Club would once again like to thank Booderee National Park and the custodians of the land the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council for the use their land.
A grey morning greeted everyone for the December Group Training Session out at Iluka. The conditions were perfect for a non-wetsuit swim. Drizzle turned to rain for the bike section which brought some of the local wildlife out to view the goings on.
Thanks to Rick and Marg O’Shea for organising the bbq breakfast, Annette Sampson, Ken Price and Tony Lim for marshalling. A special mention needs to go to Marty Bell who was on water safety duty then was involved in catering, first aid and time keeping. We hope Rick O’Shea recovers after injuring himself while setting up the marquee.
CLUB CHAMPIION
Eligible races were reduced to the best 3 races over the season because the season was cut short. Normally it is calculated over 4 races but less than a handful of members managed to do that many last year.
Points calculated on your performance relative to the winner of your age group so win gets 100 points and then awarded on the winner’s time as a percentage of yours. Rewards people who are competitive in their age groups.
JUNIOR CHAMPIION
- 3rd Allira Murray – 239 points – great results for newcomer who had never done a triathlon before.
- 2nd Freya Robinson-Mills – 293 points.
- 1st at Little and Big Husky Super Sprints – 3rd at Kurnell.
- 1st Brooklyn Henry – 294 points
- Raced Aquabike at Little Husky and won it overall.
- Also won the Sprint overall in Canberra in February.
- Rounded out with a 3rd place at All Schools.
CLUB CHAMPION
- 3rd
- Exciting 3-way tie with Jackie Lyons, Bill Stahlhut and Jon Paul Hilton all scoring 291 points.
- Jon Paul won his age group at both Little Husky and Callala and would have been a top contender for the overall award if he’d been able to keep up this form in the races that were cancelled due to COVID.
- Bill won his age group at Little Husky and put in competitive performances at Kurnell and Callala to round out his score.Jackie super-consistent. Didn’t manage to crack a win but close enough to the winner’s times to attract high scores at Little Husky (Standard), Berry Duathlon, and Forster. Some podium finishes in there too.
- 2nd Annette Sampson – 294 points.
- Age group win at Little Husky but close contests at Callala and Big Husky to score well.
- 1st Rod Rose – 300 points.
- Carrying on tradition set by Teresa Wynter in 2018 who scored a clean sweep of age group wins. Doesn’t happen often.
- Won Canberra Duathlon, Little Husky and Callala. One of the few who had raced enough to be able to choose his best races – also competed well at Berry Duathlon, Kurnell and Big Husky Long Course.
