Newsletter March 2020

What a great weekend! Fantastic to see so many members out racing, spectating, volunteering and enjoying all this brilliant weekend has to offer. Many thanks to Emmo and the Elite Energy crew for putting on an unbeatable event. Thanks also to those members who helped out with volunteering. It’s hard yakka but much appreciated by everyone.

Drumroll… Tri NSW confirmed last night that we blitzed the Interclub point score at Big Husky earning more points than even big clubs like Hills and Cronulla. With 82.5 points, we’re now 14 points clear of Kiama in the South Coast competition. Huge thanks to our long course athletes who fronted up to try to earn performance points and to everyone who competed over the weekend. We need 15 athletes entered in any event to earn the maximum 9 participation points and we more than achieved that.

RESULTS

JB had members racing across all three days and in most events. Full results are at the end of this email (let us know if we’ve missed you) but a few highlights:

  • Our youngest member, Allira Murray, who kicked off the weekend winning the 10-15 age group and placing second female overall in the 500m swim.
  • Still on the juniors, Freya Robinson-Mills’ great back-up from All Schools to win her age group in the 1km swim then place second female overall and notch up another age group win in the Super Sprint.
  • Club champion Matt Lewis coming back from injury to place sixth in the Elites in Sunday’s Ultimate.
  • Our sole female in the Ultimate, Jackie’s Lyons’ towelling up of many of the guys to place second in her age group and 19th female overall in the Ultimate. And that’s after an age group win in Friday’s aquathon.
  • Club president, Rod Rose, stepping up from Sprint to do his first long course and winning age group silver.
  • Jon Paul Hilton’s 12 minute PB in the Ultimate which placed him 24th overall and second in his age group.

There is plenty more – too many great performances to mention – so well done to everyone who competed.

PICTURES

Photos from the weekend are up on the Club’s Facebook and web page. Most are from the Ultimate but if you have any you’d like to add, just reply to this email and we’ll get them up. We’d like to celebrate as many of your efforts as we can.

INTERCLUB

As we said, JB is now firmly in the lead in the South Coast Interclub so well done everyone who has competed in the series races. For a small club, we punch above our weight. BUT we want to make sure we win this thing, and to do that we need as many members as possible to enter Bateman’s Bay, Wollongong, and Club Championships in Forster. The next race is Batemans Bay on March 28 and performance points will be awarded to members who make the top 10 in their age group in the Sprint. It’s close to home, it’s a fast flat course down at Tomakin, and March is a great time of year for racing. So what are you waiting for? Remember to get your JB Tri discount code from Elite Energy to save on entry fees.

To earn points for the Club, you MUST be a current member, though TriNSW is offering discounted memberships for the remainder of the year if you’d like to compete and haven’t signed up.

Yes, we’re banging on about Club Championships again. Why? Apart from the fact it will be a huge amount of fun, Club Champs will probably determine who wins the Interclub as it attracts double points. We would hate to be in the lead and lose out to a club with more members at Club Champs.

CLUB CHAMPS

Club Champs is also a rare opportunity to race for your Club in the TriNSW Club Championships. This is seperate from the Interclub and pits JB against Clubs from all around the state of similar size. We have previously come close to winning our division but never quite made the big step to top spot, so we’re hoping 2020 will be the breakthrough year.

The Club has organised some shared accommodation on a first-in-first served basis. Use the link below to let Bill know if you’re interested. Beds are going fast but we may be able to book another unit if there is sufficient interest.

We will also have new Club kit ready in plenty of time before Club Champs. More on that to come…
